After a brief play with a cheap 3D printer from AliExpress and the requisite disappointment with such a limited model (que, I was unable to get any model I wanted to print, it would only print models downloaded from their website) I bit the bullet and brought a decent one from my local Jaycar

Myself and my son have had a blast with this. Several rolls of PLA and a lot of leftovers, we seem to be getting into a bit of a rhythm.

I’ve purchased several 1kg rolls of White PLA+ for around $55 each, then found a company that has 3kg rolls for $82, that’s a bit of a saving!

Unfortunately these rolls don’t quite fit:

While this is got to be the jankiest way to hold the roll on, it squeaks a bit, shakes a lot and I am worried about it fall off/breaking the current mount.

I guess I could always print a spool holder:

This most certainly would not be the first time I’ve printed something to use with said printer.

So this pattern is too big to print on a Ender 3. I’ll have to find something smaller and maybe use bearings as well.

I guess the system I have set up at the moment is working well enough, the roll does seem to get lighter as time goes on…
